Meeting 433 – 14th Novemberr 2012 at 7.30pm

What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do.— John Ruski

Our next meeting is scheduled for the day after the Cup… The race that stops a nation. As an Australian with a Swiss background (with many years in Switzerland), the thought that one Horse race stops an entire population of close to 19 million people from going about what they are usually doing is simply mind blowing! Each more year (that I spend in the beautiful and versatile state of Victoria), I watch the phenomena with admiration, confusion and a big smile. I love horses. The grace, the beauty and the incredible speed this animals embody is a joy to observe. I am also getting carried away in the motion of the Spring carnival with each more year that I spend in Victoria.

I am expecting that they joy of the carnival will reflect in another dynamic meeting with my South Coast Speakers friends. We have got 3 prepared speeches scheduled and have been having the pleasure of welcoming guests from close and far!

Come along, the meeting starts at 7.30pm at the San Remo Hotel and finishes at 9.30pm. It’s something new, exciting and very worthwhile to come to.

Best Speakers Award goes to a Young Swiss!

Patrik Schoepfer is originally from a small town called Muri in Switzerland (German speaking part). He is doing work experience at one of the local businesses in Rhyll and was invited to come along to our meetings. After his first experience with South Coast Speakers, he was convinced that he was going to be an active participant and present an icebreaker (which is the first speech every Toastmaster will give). He felt that it would help him to better communicate and improve his presentation skills in English. He carefully drafted and prepared his icebreaker and on the night, won the best speaker award! Patrik talked about his family, his professional experience, his hobbies and his journey to find himself! The various travels after completing his compulsory military service in Switzerland were to serve his inspiration to find out what he wanted to next. He loves being on Phillip Island and enjoys the wildlife and the landscape – that is so different to his hometown – most. He says, he likes the challenges that South Coast Speakers (Toastmasters) provides and is keen to take them on whilst he is enjoying the time away from home.

If you would like to come along to one of our fortnightly gatherings, South Coast Speakers meets at 7.30 pm every 2nd and 4th Wednesday at the San Remo Hotel.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 7th November 2012. For more information contact Chrissy Legg on 0435 261 281or email info@southcoastspeakers.org.au.

Meeting 432 – 24th October 2012 at 7.30pm

The meeting just before the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix will be influenced by the mounting energy on Phillip Island. Everyone wants to get ready before big crowds arrive in the days leading up to the big event. Even if you are not into motorbikes it’s going to be hard to ignore the presence of the two-wheeled beauties!

‘Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.’ —Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

We are looking forward to a dynamic and powerful meeting with lots of new speeches – short and longer, impromptu and prepared ones. If you you are afraid of public speaking but feel like you are wanting to improve your communication skills and make them more succinct, then South Coast Speakers is the place to be every 2nd Wednesday of the month, 7.30pm at San Remo Hotel, San Remo.

Meeting 431 – 10th October 2012 at 7.30pm

Upon completion of our club contests and judging contest at other clubs, we are back to our usual routine. The meetings will focus on both impromptu and prepared speaking, improving our communication skills. Each meeting also offers a variety of different positions/tasks to improve our leadership skills! It’s also the beginning of spring, new energy, new ideas, new hobbies perhaps? If you have been tempted to come along to a meeting but weren’t courageous enough to do so as yet – now is a good time!

Believe you can and you’re halfway there.

We usually have dinner at the Pub (San Remo Hotel, San Remo) beforehand and are looking forward to meeting you there!
